Butter Fudge

I had forgotten all about butter fudge until I saw this on the grocery store shelf.  Happy that I like it too!  What first caught my eye was the colours in the packaging.  Then I was reminded of the confection that my mother made once in awhile for a treat.   It wasn’t my favourite but it was really nice to try a piece and compare it to my taste buds as a child.  I’m glad my husband loves it too so he can finish it.

Keys and wild turkeys

I know that this page may seem ridiculous to some people but it’s a fact.  I needed to get my own key for the house.  In fact, we don’t ordinarily lock up unless we are going away for many days.  I thought I should record the fact that the wild turkeys have returned.  We never saw them last year.

If you’re wondering, I took this photo on the snow bank beside the house

Polar Vortex

I am so grateful that this POLAR VORTEX is finally leaving the area.  It has been just so horribly cold!   I dug out my super warm winter coat; rated for -30C.  The wind was so nasty I didn’t spend much time outside.  Grateful too that Bertha’s engine turned over so I could get to physio in town.

The Tomato and the Strawberry

I bought this ages ago because there was a “going out of business” sale happening.  It wasn’t until recently that I found out that what the little “red paper” was used for.   I must have missed the memo somehow.  I truly wish I had been enlightened so much earlier.  I’ve used needles (hand stitching) with an irritating barb on the tip.  I’ve had to discard them and that annoys me too.  Now I’m looking forward to my next problem needle to give the “strawberry” a go.

What I Wore

It’s taken me a few days to get back to this page.  We have to go out and take the snow off the roof of our porch as it is over a foot thick. That means I’ll be wearing my long underwear (AKA a base layer), wool socks and snow pants again.  It’s -18C and with the wind chill-25C so we will let it warm up a bit first.  I won’t be wearing anything fancy today because it will be more hard work out there.

Just wanted to mention the SLEEPING BEAUTY stone earrings I picked up at the Royal Ontario Museum when we were in Toronto at Christmas.  I’ve always wanted a tube of the watercolour paint by Daniel Smith but couldn’t justify the cost (30.00-61.00 CDN$ depending where you bought it).  It turns out I could mix up something very close to the colour with the paint I have. I was happy to pull out this warm shirt and find that it was almost exactly the same colour too.

We had to go to town to buy a new sump pump as ours quit.  Not going to be an issue right now with this cold spell but we need to be ready for a possible January thaw (there usually is one)!
