My 1 year anniversary

WOWZERS! Today is my 1 year anniversary of my surgery!!  I underwent the 7 hour surgery to remove the tumour that was attached to my heart and my right lung.

In one month from now, I’ll be getting my 6 month CT scan.  Crossing my fingers and toes that it will be clear of any regrowth!

The wool that I used to trim my heart is from a left over ball of yarn.  My mother had knited a beautiful sweater coat for me; I loved that piece of clothing!  I can still remember how I felt when I wore it! Cheers to you Mom (Agnes RIP)!

Stitched heart is glued to an index card.

Day 9

Day 9 - Life is messy.  A bit of this and that.

I put some left over threads on the painted background and went from there.  Added stitching, black paper cut outs, and fabric.

Day $ and Day 8

This is just simple and regular appliqué using parallel whip stitch in a medium grey floss.

Day 8 The top piece shows how I finished the piece below it.  I like that in the end it looks like seed stitch but actually it was done using the simple running stitch!

Here is my title card for this year, inspired by Tunnoch’s wafer biscuits.

May Two-Four -first long weekend of the summer

In Canada, we celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria on May 24.  For us, the first long weekend of the summer is May “Two-Four” but it actually has more to do with a box of beer.  Back in the day it was 24 bottles!  No self respecting kid would go to a party on this long weekend without bringing a Two-Four.  I’m sure things have changed as people are in fact drinking less these days.  I’m not much of a beer drinker as I prefer gin.

I love this one as the beverage is so smooth.  I think it’s the addition of maple syrup that does the trick.  I still add tonic too.  I just love anything flavoured with maple!!!

I love the name of the company - Laneway; it makes me think of the laneway houses that have been popping up in the area where our daughter lives in Canada’s largest city (Toronto, Ontario).  The houses in the neighbourhood where she lived have laneways in the back where you drive to get in your garage.  It is now possible to covert this garage space into a tiny home.  Of course, there are many rules and regulations that I don’t know about.

2nd cataract surgery

I had my second cataract surgery on Monday.   Sadly, I had a new nurse attempt to put in the IV for the sedative (no sleeping, just the “I don’t care” variety).  I yelped when she went way too deep!  Due to the fact that I had had chemo, someone produced this VEIN LOCATOR!  The experienced nurse said it was actually used for arms.  She didn’t need it, I think she was a “vein whisperer” and I felt a quick poke in the back of my hand and that was it.  I had thought my veins would have returned to “normal” by now.  Maybe they will never be good veins again.

I’m glad my eyes are done though.  I took Bertha in before my surgery to get some work done and get her summer tires on so I haven’t been out driving yet.  Itching to get behind the wheel.

Sticker Shock

We went grocery shopping yesterday.  So, am I the only one who sees the real joke in the pricing of these citrus fruits?!!  Talk about sticker shock!  I wonder if anyone will buy these?  I bought Canadian apples instead.
