Quebec City

We have plane tickets for Quebec City! So very exciting, a vacation with the family.  My granddaughter is in French immersion at school so this will be good for her! I think the last time I was there I might have been 12 years old and that was a very long time ago!

Unfortunately, I suck at accuracy in this drawing (I even had a reference but couldn’t seem to follow it), so just go with the flow!

No Filter

Happy Fence Post Friday everyone and to all my Canadian friends and family; Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦 long weekend.  This shot doesn’t really have an interesting fence in it, it isn’t about the fence at all really.  This is what is going on right now as preparations are being completed for the mega concert tomorrow.  There are so many events happening in this area with the Snowbird air show tomorrow and the Promenade days in downtown Barrie. So enjoy the long weekend no matter what you plan to do and where you are doing it!

Coldwater Studio Tour

On Sunday I drove north to the village of Coldwater to see some art on the studio tour.  First stop was at the Coldwater Heritage museum, once the home of the Woodrow family (formerly of Scotland).  There was a shady spot to sit so I drew the log home because I loved the laundry they had put up on the line.

I took the time today to add colour with watercolour pencils in my regular Moleskine sketchbook

Female sculpture

I used a 3-colour magic pencil in my Moleskine on this Sktchy muse. I tried to make the sculpture and give her “life” on the page.

Cajun seasoning

I think I should create a new series and call it “in my cupboard”.

Today’s offering is something I bought just because of the name of it!  I mean I just couldn’t help laughing out loud in the store when I first saw it!

Luckily we like it; it isn’t too hot just a right amount of spicy.

Liquitex acrylic gouache in an index card.

Colossal Goodness

My Index card art for today.  There is just something about a new jar of olives!!!! I can’t wait until the seal is broken! Since we were in Crete recently, we checked to see where this jar of olives were produced.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before but I continue to be amazed by the difference in how to apply the acrylic gouache as compared to acrylic paint or water soluble gouache.

Ice Hummock

Ice Hummock.  Reference photo from Getty images.  I can’t bypass an opportunity to create a “hummock”!  Gosh that word always makes me smile.

Water soluble gouache in cobalt turquoise and cerulean blue but were taken over by the indigo. No pencil used.  Clearly, it is a challenge to create ice and snow but I’m still glad I gave it a go.

Pink Flamingo

The bird muse is from the Sktchy app and this is a prototype for a art postcard I’m making for Athens semi annual HannavAndersson exchange.  I used acrylic gouache and ink on an index card.

Flowers from our backyard

I like to document my life and what happens in my environs but that doesn’t mean I can paint flowers in a realistic sense.

I tried.  I don’t ever rip out a page I don’t like so it is what it is.

Foldable 3 in 1 Index Card

Another prototype - this is 3 index cards to make this one foldable card.  I wanted to document this fold and see if I could make something useful.  The background is a tad busy but this isn’t going anywhere.

The beauty of a prototype is that I can see some other changes I’d like to make.

A little girl big bow envelope

A Clear Winter

Ice Hummocks envelope

The Group of Seven - A. J. Casson - my version of “Ice Hummocks”.  What a great word hummocks!!  I expect that the inspiration for this one would be north over Lake Superior but I don’t know that to be true.  However, I could almost feel the north wind relentlessly blowing on the pine trees and the freezing water.

I added loads more orange because well..... because I wanted to. Still using Liquitex acrylic gouache.

This is on an envelope and it is going out to Muriel in France! I hope she likes it.

Mushrooms

Texture- I’m doing art on a Index card so here is my tree texture.  We have a shady wooded area out back of the house and with so much rain these mushrooms have popped up on some stumps. I don’t eat mushrooms but my hubby is “itching” to try them.  No way buddy, not a chance!

Liquitex acrylic gouache.

A farmers field

From a photo I took of a farmers field on my way into town.  Still trying to get the hang of this Liquitex acrylic gouache.  I so love how matte it is which means it isn’t sticky.   Next, I really like the graphic nature of this medium too.

ICAD #2
