My tiny adventure

This is my homework for Michael Nobbs class at Sketchbook Skool dot com! It was a very fun week! Quite unexpected since he uses a lot of digital drawing to make his art. I did download the Adibe Illustrator drawing app but haven't tried it out yet.

Here are my little illustrations of how I spent my day earlier this week.

Making homemade stickers for my sketchbook

I had fun making a sticker for the front of  my new sketchbook. I have two lovely art stickers that I bought from RedBubble dot com I love that I can own art at such a reasonable price,

My sticker is just splotches of paint and stamped with Stayz On ink. Okay, not so great but it was fun!

I'll be taking this book on vacation with me!

This is the sort of day it was! Lovely sunshine and cool blue skies with vapour trails.

Rabbit on vintage dictionary page

I posted this one on the weekend fine print challenge in the Sktchy app. I don't normally post on their challenges but this one spoke to me.

I also posted this to the "Everyday inFebruary" drawing group.

I am in Romania today for this month of armchair travel.

Romania- I chose this sculpture/statue of Decebalus, King of Dacia, because I thought that it was something old. In fact, this project was funded by the 2nd most wealthiest man in Romania, I.C. Dragon. It took ten years to complete, from 1994-2004.  The rock carving is 40m (or 131 ft) tall, 12 sculptures worked on it.

It is located just outside of Orsova, Kazam Gorge, on the Danube River.

Serbia is across the river and he has asked them to erect a statue of Trajan (if I read the info right, the victor in this instance) on their side but they refused. I expect he didn't wish to fund that project as well.

Late afternoon

I had to stop to get this shot for my "fence post Friday" post in FB. I love the long shadows.

Oil pastel image transfer

I have enjoyed this week of Sketchbok Dkol klass called Expressing -Penny's Dullaghan homework. I didn't have the oil paint she used so I used the next best thing -Crayola oil pastels because that is what I had.  I think it worked well and I liked how the outline kept the watercolour inside the lines. I used a dried up ballpoint pen instead of a screwdriver.

I had the chicken image in my queue over on the Sktchy drawing app so I used it for my homework. I hope the originator likes the result.

I had fun doing this and I will do it again!

Faux Lino cut images

This work was done for Penny Dullahans class in Sketchbook school.  We were away taking care of our grand-daughter because she had a bad cold and our daughter and son-in-law couldn't take time off work.  Now I have the nasty cold so I'm working through Penny's videos slowly.

This is page 2 in my sketchbook.   I don't have Lino rubber or acetate (I have some old overhead projector plastic sheets so will try that tomorrow) . I've had the Lino cutter for a bit but have never tried it out until this afternoon.

I used a veggie food tray to make a imaginary bug for something that flies.  Then tried an airplane on a dollar store eraser.

Bottom line, it was fun!!

Sketchbook Skool homework

I have really enjoyed Felix Scheinberger's class and the amount of information he offered!

One part of the homework was to draw our lunch using some of the techniques he showed us.

Frankfurt Zoo

I belong to drawing group B on Facebook make art everyday this month.  We are armchair travelers and my art group has designated countries to visit.   I trying to keep up with it.

This is my entry for Germany - The Frankfurt Zoo, I went there as a very young girl with my parent and my cousins from Wales.

These are Chilean flamingoes and it was my first time seeing these gorgeous birds!

City of the dead

Group B- Egypt- The City of the Dead - necropolis of Cairo.  There are one million tombs in the cemetery and 500,000 people live among these tombs.  The government had considered moving the people out but with a city of 20,000,000 there is precious little real estate left! This didn't "just" happen, one resident interviewed has lived there all her life and she is over 80 yrs of age!

This is my version of the photo I found! I used a Pentel Finito x-fine point. I bought it not realizing that it is not waterproof so I used that fact to my advantage this time with the addition of watercolour as well.

Using free wi-fi at Tim Hortons coffee shop

I haven't done any drawing today so I thought I would while updating my apps

We went to the OMB hearing yesterday and our friend Steve was there so I sat with him until my hubby came.

He got interviewed by the local television station. The newscaster chose a boring sound bite but at least it was a negative comment against the big business conglomerate.

Everyday in February drawing group

I joined this month Facebook group to keep drawing in my sketchbook; we will be travelling all over the world! Since this is a separate group and this has nothing to do with documenting my life I'm using loose watercolour paper sheets and I'll get them bound later (maybe... Or re-use them in mixed media art)

My first stop on my itinerary for Group B is Austria.

I drew the Cafe Vienna. At home in Canada, I am a Tim Hortons coffee kind of gal. It is the coffee of the ordinary person.

I'm also reading Felix Scheinberger's
book "Urban Watercolor Sketching".
I thought less would be more. I couldn't do the perspective justice when I drew this so I thought it would be way to hard to paint it too!

If I was to actually go to Vienna I hope there would be another cafe on the opposite side of the stree so I could try drawing and painting this in real life.

My hubby brought home some clementines yesterday because he just knew that I would want to draw them.
