Trying a non-dominant hand drawing

No prompt- I had a go with Toni Burt lesson (free sessions with Sketchbook Revival).  It was fun and I’ll have to do this again and again.  I really need to loosen up.  But I have to start somewhere so this was a pleasurable way to start.

This is a drawing from a live sketch I did the last time I was visiting Canada’s largest city of Toronto (February of this year).  I walked down to this tiny 300 sq foot home built in 1912 on what had been a laneway.  I tried to indicate how small it is beside its neighbours.

I used my Roman Somali palette- Perylene Violet and Nickel Azo Yellow.  I used Quink ink and an Elegant Writer pen in my Etchr Perfect Sketchbook (with 100% cotton cold press  Fabriano paper)

My photo is dull because we are having ANOTHER grey day here!  This has been the darkest winter we have had for something like 80 years.  Ugh!  Gosh, I hope Mother Nature will take pity on us soon!

Draw Your Words

I had a good time playing in my sketchbook.

Doodle Blobs

Here is what I did while watching Mike Lowery (free summit Sketchbook Revival 2023).  The oval remained unadorned at the end so I used it as a space to include the artist/instructor information.  If you know me at all, producing something from my imagination isn’t easy as I am predominantly a representational artist but I had fun having a go during this lesson.

We live in a 100+ year old house and each spring the flies wake up and buzz like mad on the sunny side of the house.  It drives me wild so I have a handy fly swatter at the ready.  I also saw two grackles at the suet feeder this morning.

I followed Mike’s prompt for the rabbit, made a poor headless robot and a girly monster trying on her old spring clothes.  These weren’t thought out in advance just drew lines on the pages as the idea’s occurred as I tried to make them into something.

More is More

How wonderful to watch Day 1 of Sketchbook Revival 2023!  (I’m not sure but I think it is still free to join).  Thanks so much Karen Abend! I’m especially happy to see Janine from UPPERCASE is a sponsor.  UPPERCASE is my one and only magazine subscription and I LOVE it!

I had already drawn out my new coffee mug this morning when I had my first cup.  It isn’t really new but my favourite glass one broke so I had to reach into the back of the cupboard to find a replacement. Yes! I love all things MAPLE and this morning that included my coffee!

I appreciate that Janine agrees with me; that when it comes to colour, more is more.  I’m sure that is what I heard her say!

Sketchbook Buddies

This is what I did during a zoom call with friends yesterday afternoon.  I added the colour today.  These are representative drawings and not meant to be portraits.  Pencil, pen, marker and watercolour in my Royal Talens Art Creations sketchbook.

Fence Post Friday & Happy St Paddy’s Day

This one is a “two-fer” since it is a Fence Post Friday and St Paddy’s Day as well!

Enjoy your weekend!  It’s pouring rain here so some of our snow will disappear.

Wherever you are try and get out to enjoy some maple syrup that they are cooking up at your local sugar shacks!  Personally I love maple taffy! My grandma use to make it for me when I was little and I’ve loved it ever since.  All that silky sticky goodness on top of snow!

To the Thawing Wind

I watched a U-tube video by Nicole Warrington this morning and was inspired to create this page.  Back in January, I was fooling around with my gel-plate and I put the leftover paint in my sketchbook.  Happy that I remembered it and with the text and the collaged daffodils, I have a completed page!  We still have too much snow for flowers but there is always hope.

A couple of days ago it was much warmer with sunshine and I could hear the sound of the snow melting.  There is something so wonderful seeing the lacy crystallized snow falling off the snow bank and on to the ground.  The texture of the snow has changed from the soft smooth snow of winter and morphed into spring granulation!  Wising you a hasty goodbye!

My First Robin for 2023

I love a sunny winter day!

Draw with Me

Nothing special for today,  I watched Draw with Me, Sketchbook Skool on U-tube at noon and drew these portraits.   There isn’t much of a likeness but that’s okay with me.  It was fun regardless.

No pencil, just pen with paint.

Expired cough and cold drink

I finally felt like creating a page.  I tried to start one the other day but didn’t have the energy to finish.

Sad but true, my husband and I have finally succumbed to the plague.  Thankfully we are both vaxed and boosted! However the nights are difficult with the need to cough.  I would love to nap in the afternoon but can’t if I lie down flat.  I kinda wish we had a lazy boy chair.

Last night I survived on cough syrup that had expired 2019 which is a step up from this noxious beverage.   Clearly I need to keep an eye on expiry dates but I’m glad we had something in the cupboard.
