On vacation

We just returned home from a weekend up in Bracebridge, Ontario (what a nice downtown!) and I actually got time to do a drawing. Since I had already experimented with the female face I chose a photo of a male face. There aare some things that I'm not that thrilled about the drawing, however I have learned that I need to use quality paper only when drawing; large or small. I couldn't erase what I wanted to change because of the poor quality of the paper that I brought with me.

The next thing that is certainly a learning experience is how to manipulate the picture so that it will show the best on the computer screen. That is the tricky part, scanning the picture, cropping and otherwise enhancing the picture so that it looks good on-line. I think the original drawing is much better than what you see here but this is as good as I can get it.

Back to the Basics

I have been negligent of late with posting and I am so disappointed that I have not had much time for making any kind of art. The other day I felt the compulsion to do "something", anything! So, I got out a piece of paper and my favourite woodless 2B pencil and drew a face that I found in an old magazine. I took the page and scanned it into my computer. I do love the free Canon printer that I got with my new Macbook. I uploaded the drawing to my Facebook page but it lacked depth and her facial features were not visible. So I have tweaked it slightly using the enhance button in iPhoto to see how it will look here.

I should be outside, you know it, I'm here! I wish I didn't love the internet so much. To that end I started a quick painting yesterday. I thought that I could finish it but I should have known better. It is a painting that I needed to get my mind back into a creative mode, it is an exercise to limber me up and awaken my creative spirit!

On Vacation

Well, back from Bracebridge for a day. The Airstream is clean and so is the outhouse in preparation for the gang to come up tomorrow for the weekend. My hubby laid down a landing for the Airstream door. Ready for a good time - rain or shine!!!!!

Blogging from Bracebridge

Just thought that I would try out blogging from our Airstream trailer that sits on 50 acres just east of Bracebridge! I got on the internet using my Rogers rocket stick! Sweet!!! I'm loving this very much. Too much fun!

I love how I can change the colour for each post and mess around with the font and font size.

Trial and Error

Not completely satisfied with what I was able to accomplish yesterday; I still have lots to learn! However, I am still excited by the prospect! I'm trying to post a picture of my offering made as part of the Marmalade Fibre Arts group challenge.

It may not be obvious to everyone, this is my rendition of an abstract landscape. It is a picture of a setting sun overtop of a mountain with a ruby red cloud; the purple sky is dotted with stars overlooking lush farmers fields. Most of this project is recycled: the mountain is made from painted and ironed bubble wrap, the sky is a recycled dryer sheet, and the sun is from a spacer used from a CD container. The fields were created using recycled mens silk ties.

The cloud was not made from recycled materials; it was fun to knit the thread on skinny needles and then have a use for it. I also embellished the landscape with beads and sequins. It was a fun project to do.

This was a challenge from 2008 and it took our group almost a year to complete since I believe that we had ten participants. I challenge the other members of our group to use recycled materials. I called it my Reclamation project.

So here is my first attempt at posting a picture of a piece of art. I want to see how it looks on the blog before I invite other members of our group to join me here.

It's Fun to Learn new things

I'm just trying this site out to see how it works because I think that the fibre arts group that I am involved with would benefit from using this site and technology when we can't always get together. Using this site we could post pictures of and blog about what we are currently working on and invite feedback.
