Painting the railing

I started this many days ago and thought I’d best finish it today .... finally.   Back in the day, when I was much younger I loved doing this chore in the heat of the summer because I would wear my bathing suit.  Now we are a tad bit older we prefer to paint when it is cooler. However I hope we can get this done while it is still warm enough.  Have I mentioned that my hand is sore and I’m happy to get a day off here and there.   Today we went to town, tomorrow we are back at it!!

Just to be clear.... we have a very large deck that goes along the length of our house up to the front door.  Painting 194 spindles is laborious.  The shrub with the pink blobs is the hibiscus bush that my father gave to me as a birthday present.  The season is ending and the flowers are all shrivelling up.  It was prolific this year!

Tomatoes from the garden

I wanted to record that my husband’s garden was a fabulous one this year.  He made the steak sauce too while I was out and about. I had to record that he loves the heirloom tomatoes that he planted.  They were the best of all the varieties he planted.

I used gouache because the Moleskine sketchbook doesn’t like too much water.

Selfie Sunday

I used a Magic pencil on Canson XL black drawing sketchbook.  Lots of missteps and mistakes but I was too nervous to try erasing in case it smudged.

Car Repair and a meal out

This is what we did today.  My hubby had to take his car into get a lightbulb for the fog light on his car.

I had time to draw the snow tires on display and another owner in the waiting area. We were all sitting 6 feet apart and wearing our mandatory masks. They found another issue that took extra time.  We decided to take a walk.  The dealership is located in large plaza so we walked over to get a bite to eat.   We took a table outside so I didn’t go in to order.  I was so bummed that I hadn’t thought to ask for a root beer float!!

Oops I see that I didn’t complete the name of the city.  Will do. In my Moleskine.

Selfie Sunday

I’m just loving the black paper so I’m using it again today.  It is a raining buckets this morning and I had to bring out the OTT light to photograph this.

This time I used cheap craft paint on the black card stock.  I don’t have black craft paint so I used Liquitex acrylic gouache.

I can see some places that need tweaking but I know myself.....I’m best to leave well enough alone.  Done!  Have a great rest of your day everyone!

Sketchbook Skool on IG

Well since there wasn’t a draw with me yesterday, I drew Dominick today on Instagram.  I had my gouache palette out so it was what I used.   Thanks Dominick Dominik Neuffer ,  I agree that we must make art for ourselves and not for others.  I’m glad you said that since I wasn’t able  to get a good likeness of you during your discussions with the new moderator from Sketchbook Skool.  Regardless, I created a page today in my Moleskine and that is good thing.

Hedge Trimming

Some of you know that I pretty much just document my (our) mundane life, so here is my completed page. I started this page last week with the drawing of the hedge trimmer while my hubby cleaned up the bits and bobs from his work.  I didn’t have a clue how to finish the page until it came to me the night before last.  It has been a long time since I have done any collage. The trimmer seems to be hovering on the page but I kind of like it that way!  Had I been thinking about composition, I would have added his hands.  Hmmmmmm......I still could collage them in even now (but probably won’t)!

If your wondering, the non-stick strip was just added there because the book was open at that page.  I was still contemplating how I was going to make the page “right” and give it a finished look.

I went in straight with pen and messed up the perspective of the “business” end of the trimmer so I used gouache to partially hide that fact.  For me, tools are just so hard to do but I’m happy now and can finally turn the page! Moving on....

Moleskine sketchbook, Liquitex acrylic gouache, scrapbook paper, magazine images, pen and pencil crayons (that is coloured pencils for those of you in other parts of the world).

Another self portrait Sunday

Last week I tried water soluble crayons and this week it is oil pastels.  Yup, not my fave but it sure is colourful and the making was very fun!  I might have to seek out a tutorial on the net and learn more about them.  I used a small set of extra fine Expressionist Cray-Pas and a set of Junior Cray-Pas that I got at a charity shop way back when and my substrate is black card stock.

Shopping Day

No prompt- Thanks so much for using my journal page in the banner!!

Prior to COVID 19, I never did the grocery shopping with my husband because he would throw too much $$$ stuff in the cart.  That has all changed.  I use to just get in the car and go;  now it is a big deal where I actually get a teeny bit dressed up (well dressed up for me that is).  Who knew that the day would come when shopping is considered an “outing”.

When I started this handmade book in May I documented my grocery shopping outfit and today I worked on my second last spread and did the same thing. That made me smile, I love it when that kind of stuff happens.

I didn’t leave enough room for shoes so I gave myself some itsy bitsy feet!
