The township participates in Culture Day

I wanted to check out the art that was on display here as part of the township participation in "Culture Day".  I took the road less travelled and stopped in to see the artist show and sale at the Carley Hall.  I did this sketch before heading into town to see in other exhibits.

Carley Hall was originally a one room school built in 1902.  Unfortunately the event was not promoted well and only 12 people had been through to see the artists work on display.

I was very happy to have had an opportunity to get a drawing down even though I didn't paint it on site.

Cartoon Drawings are Fun

Here is a little cartoon I drew this morning

Now that there has been a cooling off in our unseasonably hot stretch the "soon" will be "sooner".

I think complaining about the weather should be considered a national sport here in Canada

Made an Accordion folded book for my cartoons

Wow! I had to catch up since I was so far behind already! Yippee I did it!

I had an excellent time doing this even though I didn't do "exactly" as required.  I made a mini comic and then bound it with a folded accordion binding.

I used kiddo oil pastels, ink and watercolour on some cheap watercolour paper.  I had a piece of blue card stock left over from another project for the binding.

Sweet little Lamb

Thanks to Mariah from Sktchy for the inspiration, your little lamb is so cute. I had this page in my Moleskine -  leftover paint from my gelli-plate and the soft carpet under pad and styrofoam used as a stamp.  Some more pink paint brayered on to the page to clean paint off.  Lamb painted in gouache. Totally a fun mixed media piece.  It says "Please welcome WOOLLY, our newest member of the LAMB'S QUARTER CLUB".  It is a bit of a pun on the prolific weed in the garden.

Norman Bethune National Historic residence Gravehurst Ontario

Very thrilled that I could get together once again with my long distance sketch friend Martie to spend a wonderful afternoon in Gravenhurst, Ontario.

2017 marks Canada's 150th Birthday so we stopped in to Norman Bethune Memorial House. Awesome that entrance was free since it is a national historic site.

The Park staff were even so kind as to get us some fancy padded folding chairs to sit on to draw! How about that!!!

Here is as much as I could in the time we had available.

If you were wondering, autumn has begun in earnest even if it is warm during the day.

Ya got to love COW art!!!

Thanks Jennifer for your fun photo! I had a Blast this morning creating my page.  Yesterday, I was playing with my gelli-plate and I thought what if, I throw down some cheap craft paint and use my around-the-house stamps/stencils.  I cut a styrofoam veggie tray and made the flower shape and two circle shapes.  Used some metal sequin waste ribbon I found at the fabric store, soft under carpet grid non slip rubber, the straight lines are from the white cardboard from a package of cookies.  The grey is actually Golden Open Paynes Gray.  Then added more pen lines and marker colour.  If you didn't grow up with this vernacular it means stay calm and don't sweat it; or, don't get your knickers in a knot! #acrylic #cow #mixedmedia #monoprint

Interesting doggie perspective

Thanks to Tina from Sktchy for the inspiring photo!  I had thrown the stencils that I had been using on my gelli-plate and applied it to my sketchbook to remove the excess paint.  It has taken me some time to find an  appropriate image to put on this double page spread. My granddaughter says that we should "reach for the stars" so.... that gave me the idea that works here. I know that dogs dream even though they probably don't dream about reaching for the stars! Acrylic paint and watercolour  I don't think I am quite done so I'm saying it is WIP.

I never tire of CHICKEN art!! - COPIC art is fun!

Thanks to Sktchy for the awesome chicken photo.  When the weather in the world seems to be in chaos- KEEP CALM AND MAKE CHICKEN ART!! My rooster asks, "Does anyone know where Chicken Little is?!? I need to tell her that the sky isn't falling!" I used a previously prepared background and made it work.  Patterns curtesy of a bottle top in my Moleskine with gouache and an Elegant Writer pen.

I was test driving a new COPIC sketchbook that I found in town in a card making scrapbooking store.  Nice to use this paper and to use my markers once again.  It is has been awhile.

This is the same woman as above but this time it was done in my new Strathmore Vision mixed media sketchbook.  It is "almost" as good as the COPIC as it is suitable for mixed media.  Elizabeth's face got a wee bit blotchy but I think that it might have been my use of the markers and I didn't blend as much as I should have.

Regardless, I had a good time and this drawing really isn't too bad at all.

Different angles - I love Vintage Cars

I saw this vintage car in the lot beside the post office up on the highway and just had to pull over.

No time for paint as I ended up drawing up a bit of a collage.  I'm pretty thrilled as the owner of "Cool Rides" (vintage car storage place in the plaza) stopped by to see what I was doing  and he says I can come by any time to draw what ever they have in the shop.

World Beard Day, a Straw Bale and a Pal-o-Mine

I didn't know when I started out this morning that it was #worldbeardday. It just happened that I saw this photo posted on Sktchy and I liked it.  Previously prepared background and drawing done using the water soluble Staedtler "cool roller" and watercolour.  Lots of mistakes made and wasn't able to grab a true likeness but I'm okay with it!  I had fun giving him a go.  My mother use to repeat the old adage often that I have manipulated for this page - "A Bird on your shoulder is better than one in the bush"!! Ha! Ha! In my Moleskine.

C is for Chocolate Bar-  "Pal-o-mine" with a yummy fudge centre is made in New Brunswick by Ganong.  A friend of mine is from Nova Scotia and couldn't buy them locally in Ontario "back in the day".  If a friend or a family member went east for a holiday she would ask if they could bring her back a case/box of them.  She always shared them with me!  Yum! She certainly was a "Pal-o-Mine"!!!!
