Zoom faces

This is what a created while watching the Saturday zoom meet this morning.  I’m convalescing from surgery so this took me all morning to complete (and into the afternoon) as I have to work piecemeal.  I thought about adding pencil crayons as suggested but I think I should leave well enough alone. I made some mistakes but I’m not going to talk about them.  I couldn’t follow all of the steps exactly as instructed but I achieved a semblance of  the lesson.  Regardless, I enjoyed myself completely.  Thanks Carla Sonheim

Is it a cookie or a biscuit

During my convalescence, I’ve been leafing through some old sketchbooks.  I found this one that hasn’t been finished.  This page had acrylic paint added via the gel plate, I thought it would be fun to use it.

I was nervous about driving to town yesterday as it was my first time since my surgery. I think my husband was even more nervous than I was.  Bertha was happy to be moving down the highway at a good speed.  I chose Sunday because the holiday traffic hadn’t started yet (it’s Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada).  Today, all the cottagers will be heading south in preparation for work tomorrow.

Anyway, all went well.  I bought some groceries that we didn’t need but was “wanted” when I saw them on the shelf.  I just had to try these because I remember liking Sultana cookies made with raisins.  I do love currants too (especially in my butter tart, much better than raisins!).  I may be wrong but I think the Sultana cookies might be from the US and these are from the UK.

I still can’t sit at the kitchen table for long or spend a long time in the car (unless I sit in the backseat with my leg up) but I am getting better and I can spend a little bit longer than I did last week.  When my leg starts to burn, it’s time for ICE!!!

Apple blossom

It was sunny and windy so I went out to enjoy the weather.  The black flies here are ferocious and they love me even though I hate them.  I wanted to have a peak at our apple trees out back.  They were pruned to within an inch of their lives two years ago.  They didn’t bud last year so I’m happy to see that there are some flowers.

World Collage Day 2023

Today is World Collage Day so this is my collaged spread.  I love looking at other people’s collages and I’ve taken some classes and watched tutorials but I still can’t make myself like my work.  I think I just need more practice; if I make more collage art I should grow into the art making and know what I like.  There are bits and pieces I like, I just don’t like the composition much.  I’d say I need to plan more by making thumbnails.  I’m glad I can just turn the page.   Moving on.

I used magazine paper, book paper, music paper, black sketch paper, gesso, marker, pen and embroidery floss.

Periwinkle

I used two canes to walk out on our bumpy lawn to see if I good slide into my Bertha’s drivers seat.  Yippee! All went well, minimal discomfort bending my knee.

The Periwinkle is quite pretty but beware! I don’t know what my husband was thinking to plant this many years ago.  Ugh!

Yes, my husband is going to be mowing the lawn soon; this lily of the valley plant was growing in the grass.

King Charles III

I created this page while watching the coronation on television.  My comments here are my personal opinion and not meant to offend anyone.
I’ve always loved history, even in school.  Of course I had to watch the coronation of King Charles III as it was history in the making.

I walked to the mailbox

Here is a page where I just couldn’t figure out how to draw it up so it made sense.  Look at the page marked 1 first then at 2.

The long and short of it is that I went out to my husband’s car (the old guy because he is older than me) and got my walker out.  Then I walked down to the mailbox on the road to see if we had mail.  Yay! The flag was up and there was a letter inside for me!  Our laneway is packed gravel and dirt so it was a slow walk but I’m not going fast these days anyway.

I see the surgeon next week so I want to be prepared if he gives me the nod to drive again.

New shoes

There is always a good reason to buy new shoes!  This time it’s because I need to make it easy on myself; laces aren’t fun right now.   I love that I saw the advert on television and although I’m not traveling yet, this is exactly what I want!

Can you believe that my Christmas cactus is blooming once again!!!

Goal achieved

Okay so I’m happy to get my the wheels on my “push cart” but I’m not going to lie; I’ll be happier when I can transition to a cane!  It’s my current goal along with driving my car!
I (I should say “we” since I’m not allowed to drive yet) go to physio on Tuesday and Thursday’s.  I had to give myself a gold star for actually being able to achieve the range of motion that had been discussed several weeks ago during my initial assessment.  So now I’m re-energized to do the difficult exercises each and every (without fail!)

Morning Coffee

Another milestone achieved this morning!  I felt like a little kid sneaking stealthy out to the kitchen.  When I woke at 6 I had some hopes that my husband might wake up too and bring me some fresh ice packs.  By 7 I had enough of waiting.  I’m slightly impatient.  It was the first night since the operation that I actually slept 5 hours in a row!  I felt happy with some relief.
By the time I was halfway through my cup of coffee, my hubby appeared at the kitchen door.  “What are you doing here?” Come on, are you married to me??!!  I think you can guess!
