Soft pastels in my sketchbook

It rained cats and dogs all night then this afternoon it rained dinosaurs!! Good grief, I thought I lived in the great white north and not the tropics!

Anyway… I like to check this sheep farm a few roads over from us to see if they have put the mamas out with the new lambs.  Instead, I was visited by 5 donkeys, the sheep amwere still in the back 40.  I dug out my sketchbook and my Derwent drawing pencils and got to work.  Today, I thought I would use a little used art supply to build up the colour.  I left the donkeys as is even though the one on the right could use some help!  I’ve decided that I will be taking my soft pastels with me for plein air painting.  I smooshed the pigment with water on my brush. I think it looks much better.  I wish I would have taken a before picture.

Corrugated Cardboard

10/61 -  Its all about texture.  I used corrugated cardboard, music, book paper, tissue and magazine paper on the ended card.  Painted with black acrylic and Quin Gold and splattered with white gesso.  I made a white eraser stamp earlier this spring so I stamped around the edge to give the appearance of a frame.  Final touch was the stitching.

It has been a long time since I have posted a Fence Post Friday photo so here it is!  I never get tired of seeing these cute donkeys. Hopefully the weather will comply.  Enjoy your weekend come what may!

No mojo

It’s been a rocky road the last couple of weeks.  First, we had workmen here hammering and just disrupting my flow.  I had no desire to make any art.  Then I have been going to appointments that I had to put off due to my knee replacement surgery.

It hasn’t been a very good experience so far but at least my issues are fixable.  My biggest concern is my eyesight. Wow! Thankfully I only need one good eye to be able to drive.  When you live 20 minutes from town that is an important distinction.

My knee works fine but with the numbness and swelling it feels like I have a cement block around it.  I’ve been told that will likely be the case for quite some time (anywhere between 6 months to a year).  I finished the physio required by the hospital and will start next month physio as prescribed by the surgeon. My range of motion “bending” could be better so I look forward to getting back to physio next month.

Happily Bertha got her snow tires off last week.  Due to the fact that she sat unused for 2 months, I had to get her rotors (brakes) machined to get the rust off.  Ugh! Then I had to buy new rubber because her old summer tires were considered bald. What a bummer!

Bronze Star

Thanks Sara Catena for your class, I had lots of fun. I used watercolour and pens and a tiny bit of acrylic pink got the bathing cap and black gesso for the two piec suit.  In two weeks, we will be meeting up with our family at the cottage in Sauble Beach Ontario along the shores of Lake Huron (one of the Great Lakes here in North America).  Our granddaughter just passed her bronze star yesterday so I wanted to document her success.  Thanks Sara for the inspiration.  I added a star fish because I love them even though they don’t live in the waters of in-land lakes.

7/61 ICAD

This is more of an intuitive meditation where the destination is unknown.
Roman Szmal paints and two brushes; a flat and a size 0.  I always find it so enjoyable trying to find interesting shapes to put beside the last shape and/or colour.  I invite you to see Tansy Hargan work on IG.  I took a class from her called Finding your Colour Voice last summer and really enjoyed this mindful process.

The dark green looks black here in some areas but I didn’t use black paint.

ICAD 2/61

I can’t believe that this measly wedge is the only polka dots that I have in my stash. Oh well, it is what it is.  I found this index card with the fabric attached, no idea what I intended to do with it so I used it today.  I know I didn’t like the flower that I fussy cut at the time I made it but I’m happy with it now.  Must go now and head to town.

ICAD 2023

Here is my 1/61 for ICAD 2023.  ICAD stands for Index Card Day that is the creative brainchild of Tammy @gypsy999.  I love the “KEEP CALM” postcards so I had fun making this.  I don’t fish but I do sometimes hang out while my husband does.  I usually draw and/or read my pocket novel.  It is very relaxing.
Acrylic paint, collage fishing pole and fish, embroidery floss and Gelly roll neon pen on a cheap dollar store index card. #dyicad2023 #daisyyellowart #indexcardaday
