I'm not a neo-geo kind of gal

The library book I have been reading showed the artist/writers take on the neo-geo style of Peter Halley. I had never heard of this artist or the style and thought I would have a go at it myself. This is my interpretation of this style. Of course I felt it "needed something" besides the paint so I added some painted drywall tape to my card. I used a mixture of gesso, student grade paints, craft and airbrush paints. I created the circles using tops that I keep for this purpose.

I am happy that I was able to complete this card today.

I finished this card yesterday but forgot to post. It began with the label from a bar of fancy soap (the kind wrapped with s ribbon).  I added this and that: ribbon, drywall tape and some paper that I got in the mail this week.

Palette Knife painting

I live in the boondocks so I don't have a stellar internet connection, that means I see my videos the old-fashioned way....via library book!! I have one that reminded me of some techniques I haven't tried out yet. I laid down an "under painting" of burnt sienna. Then I tried "palette knife" painting using the "impasto" method of painting. I had loads of fun giving it a go! My only recommendation is that a heavy body or tube acrylic be used. I used mostly Liquitex Basics, in my opinion they are a bit soft for this technique.

I created this for the ICAD challenge by Tammy over at Daisy Yellow.

Glad to be home

I love to visit with friends but really I am happy to be back home.

This was a picnic rest area at Silver Lake Ontario that stopped at on my way home yesterday.

I had applied the thread and gesso and resin sand (the gesso sticking power just wasn't up to the job!) a while back. Today I looked at it and thought I might try to do something with it. This is the rexult. Not great but I am happier than what I expected after the addition of alcohol inks. The blue looks cool but not loving the red. Oh well, I made a card today!

On the Rideau River

This is the view from inside my friends house where I have been staying for the last few days! The home is on the Rideau River and the house is located on a narrow section of the river do the opposite bank is reflected in the water. I tried to blue it up a bit to indicate the water in contrast to the lawn. It didn't translate too well in the photo but I think you can see what I mean.

Love cherries

The cherries this year have been excellent; so very sweet. Decided to test drive my new Palamino Blackwing Pearl pencil. Graphite is my first love; I mean I just love the simplicity of the lowly pencil. Ah the days spent doodling in class!

Selfie day

Hello my name is Brenda and I am a cheater.  I cheated on my hairdresser and went to one of those cheap hair cutter places. I came out looking like this! Ugh! I promise I will never do that again!

Have I mentioned that I hate my hair...scratch that....I love my curly mad hair! I just detest trying to draw and paint it!!! I made my face a tad rounder than it really is.

Decayed and buried

Lots of collage used here that is hidden by the many layers of paint.

My hubby brought home some Thai food for dinner. I found a piece of corrugated cardboard in the bottom of the bag...that was how I got this card started.

I wanted it to look decayed and had been buried and dug up from the ashes!

I ate a pear for breakfast

Today, I drew a pear, then it ended up looking like this!!

Lots of collage that is hidden by the many layers of paint.

I had a song running through my head towards the end from way back in the day! I wish I would have been listening better while Kenny Rogers sang 🎼"ya gotta know when to hold 'em; know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away".  I should have walks away earlier. Oh well, I made some art today!

Indigo Blue!

Bird posted on the Sktchy app and I drew it for one of my art groups on FB.

I don't have a species but regardless he was fun to draw and paint. I only used Uniball black pen, indigo blue and yellow watercolour and a dot of white pen.

A comedy of errors

My home town is Barrie Ontario, I live in boondocks just north east of it.  I haven't lived there much but I worked there all my working life.  It was a comedy of errors for me today; right place, right time.... wrong date! Ugh! I had feed the silly parking meter so I dropped in to the art gallery. Then I thought I might as well make good use of my time and sat outside to draw the replica statute of the Great Thinker.  Then, I looked across the road at the City Hall. The grey metal structure represents the silhouette of the old city hall that was torn down. My Dad use to work there and I would walk from high school to meet him when I missed the bus home. Lived in the country back then too and no city transportation at the time. I spent a nice time drawing and thinking about my dear old Dad!

It ended being a good day. I'll see my friend for lunch next Monday!

A winter window

Not all experiments turn out the way we think they might....because... they are just that...experiments!  I have a jar of Watercolour ground that I want to try out. I also had the backing from a mailing label so I wondered what would happen...slapped on the ground and if bubbled. I rather nice lacy effect. I thought it looked wonderful; it might be good to be used as a focal point. When it was dry, I picked up the plastic label backing sheet and the ground literally fell off the label. Oh boy....I was bummed!  This is what I can up with. This is how our porch windows look like mid-winter in the early morning (February) when it is -30C and the morning sun is shining on them.

That is my card for today, such as it is!

ICAD-index card a day

I'm participating in the ICAD challenge!!dint know if I can keep up but I will try my best.

This card was inspired by Kathie who gave me permission to draw! So I had fun drawing and painting Daisy! I used a gelli-print index card that I made last year and never used. I drew Dausy on a card and cut her out and glued her to the background card.  I added some glitter because I like sparkles (but not too much)!

We have been introducing jokes to our grand-daughter and of course this is a good clean one for little kids. I switched it up for the card .... Because I can!!

I had a page in my sketchbook that I hated so I glued on some tissue from a sewing pattern and had stenciled on some black down the one side with some drywall tape.  I decided to use the cut out from the index card to trace Daisy in my sketchbook. I am happy that I can document Daisy and the challenge in my book as well.
