Card 3/5 and an envelope

Follow up from yesterday- I made an envie using the same granny glasses motif.  I left room for the address.  Pen drawing and Crayola twistable multi-colour crayons.

No, the recipient of the greeting card will not be receiving s matching envelope.  For me that would be “over the top”!

Sktchy muse, perfect for the “red” theme! I thought it looked like she might be saying something.  Not all that happy with my text placement but oh well.... another card done.

Sketching new ideas

My focus is getting my ideas for my greeting cards down in my sketchbook.  I’ve completed one and have 4 more to create.  I don’t do assembly line style of art work. I like to make each card distinctly different from the one before.

I think I’ll save the top one for another time but I had a chuckle when I sketched it out.

Hot on the Scent

I used the moon paper transparency film as the top layer.  So thrilled that I could use what I learned here in another area of art making.

I joined a greeting card exchange earlier and the theme is RED (to be mailed out next month). I learned from another artist how to “scan” using an app that already exists on my iPhone (the Notes app).  The shine on the transparency was getting in the way a more realistic photo.

Book page, acrylic paint, gesso, stamping, permanent markers and gouache paint.  Lettering and perfume bottle fussy cut and collaged to book page then to blank card substrate.

I own this scent but not this particular bottle design (mine is not as pretty as this one).

Thanks Carla Sonheim for teaching me this technique and sparking my creativity in a new direction.

Doggie Profile

I need to keep playing with gouache.  Sktchy inspired.  There are some things I would change but I’m satisfied since I didn’t do an under-drawing; I went straight in with the paint brush.  The background is cheap matte acrylic craft paint in my sketchbook.

Cardinal

Playing with gouache.  Sktchy inspired bird.  Some of you may recall that I have a love/hate relationship with our resident cardinal.  However, now that our landscape is black grey and white it is nice to see him!

Probiotic or Not

My hubby is a retired health professional and he and my daughter have been extolling the virtues of Kefir and other probiotic products.

However, it seems there is yet another study out that shows that the group that was not given anything fared as well or better than those that took the probiotic.  The probiotic in fact didn’t help to repopulate the good bacteria in the bowel.

Yippee!!! So there, take that......Now I don’t feel bad for doing the easy peasy way.  I won’t be spending any more money on these “good for me” treatments.

If your wondering about the messy background; I was just filling in all that white space around the three “treatments” and had no idea where I was going.  Just doodling with my brush and paint in my Stillman and Birn sketchbook

Seeing Red

Puffin cereal

I am so happy I got to see puffins in their natural habitant while we were in Newfoundland.  If you ever think of visiting I can highly recommend Gatherall’s tours in Witless Bay.

I’m not going to lie but I’m not really fond of this as a breakfast cereal but it is a tasty afternoon snack straight out if the box.

Pigeon

We don’t see many pigeons here in the countryside so this is unusual

New Canadian $10 bank note

Yesterday I met some friends from work for lunch in town.  I got my first new $10 bank note. Viola was a beautiful business woman and the bank note ias as beautiful as she was.  Kudos to the design team from the Canadian bank note company; this bill is spectacular.

Viola is the first woman on our bank note who is not the a Queen or a male Prime Minister; plus she is the first black woman.

This is the first time that the image is in the portrait orientation, usually it would be in landscape.  I’ve heard that the money machines will have to be modified to read the new bill.

Barn Quilt

No prompt -I decided to take a different route home and was surprised at how long it had been since I’ve been on this road.  Likely the barn quilt would have been erected during the summer or fall.  How pretty to see such colour on s bleak grey day.

Fence Post Friday and a Cow

This dude wouldn’t pose  for me! This one is a big beast, he likely doesn’t feel the -1C! It is relatively warm for this time of year.  I think he wanted to join the rest of the herd who were out front.  They were all giving me that COW stare; you know the one.....the one that says “what on earth is this silly human doing”!?  Okay, so I know that it is an anthropormorphic fallacy but that is what I was imagining they were thinking!

New Years Day

Quotes and a fortune-!when I “finished” today’s page I knew I wasn’t done, I just didn’t have anymore time to spend on it! I’ll be adding some more tomorrow.

It all started with the foil wrapper on the chocolates.  I used indigo instead of ultramarine...just because.  I have wanted to use the stars for a bit and was happy that the star motif is on the wrapper.
