Hazy Grey purse

We drove to town yesterday to get our flu shots.  My hubby had to get a load of gravel so he took his pickup truck.  I’m happy that he didn’t want me to keep him company. Ugh!  So I got an opportunity to do a bit of personal shopping.

The Roman Szmal shadow violet is a perfect match for the hazy grey colour that is marked on the tag.  I’m leaving the silly gorilla keychain on (for now) but I’ll be attaching my own to it.

UPPERCASE and silk

I only subscribe to one magazine that is published 4 times a year for the Creative and the Curious!! (I love that!). It is called UPPERCASE and issue 59 that I received this month has a segment of a paper pieced quilt on the front and back covers.  This inspiring magazine ships worldwide from Canada.  I can highly recommend!!

I’m glad I thought of including this magazine here so that I document my fibre treasure that I found at the second hand shop.   I couldn’t believe that I would find Dupioni silk remnants in two baggies.  I hymned and hawed because I thought my old eyes were deceiving me.  I just love all the different colours.  Happy I bit the bullet and brought them home.  I love this material so much, back in the day I sewed a Nepalese-styled blouse with it.  Now to dream up a sewing project!

Dear dear, I can see that my grammar and sentence structure is lacking on my page.  Oh well, I know what I mean.

Christmas Cactus

We have been spending time with the family for the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend, when we left my Christmas cactus had a lovely bud on it.  I’m sure when we get home today it will be in full bloom.

SASHIKO mending

It is our Thanksgiving long weekend here in Canada so we are spending time with the family.  My mother-in-law gave my daughter and I two summer quilts made with the women in her church group.  She has been gone now for 35 years.  The quilt is falling apart so my daughter is afraid to wash it in order to avoid further damage.  In the last few years I’ve learned about the Japanese art of SASHIKO mending.  It is a visible mending technique whereby patterns are stitched on fabric being mended.  I’m doing my own version of this visible mending technique and using the few simple embroidery stitches that I know.  I think the quilt pattern would be called a “six patch” but I’m not sure.  I’ve made a start on this square and have added 3 small patches of  unbleached cotton.  I’m re-enforcing the rest with my stitches as the fabric appears stable to my eye.  Some of the threads have fallen apart on the white fabric so I’m adding stitches there too.  This will be a very long project that I will work on when we visit.  I’ll be interested to see how my stitching morphs over time.  Let me know if my project inspires you to try it for yourself.
