The ties or the thread?!?

It all started with a found missive my aunt sent to my parents in 1988.  It is really a travel journal if their trip to Russia.  I saw an art installation many years ago that had these treads wound around a frame; this is my take on that inspirational piece.

In my hand bound sketchbook.  Markers, acrylic ink, dress pattern and cardboard

Recycling truck wipes out our garbage box

This is what happens when the the recycling truck wipes out the garbage box at the end of laneway. My hubby had a buddy help him with the floor on the first day and the bare bone walls. Yesterday and today, I ended up being his “go-fer”! Thank goodness we finished it today.  I was drawing in the rain yesterday so there is some extra black blotches! I just added the tools here and there in between fetching this and that.  I’m just glad I got a journal page out of it but glad it’s over! Next time ...... we buy  one from Crappy Tire.

King Herbert the Chicken

I’ve not been able to create art much lately- every thing in dribs and drabs! Today I had time so voila- totally inspired by an advertisement for Italian wine in a free magazine.  However, I made my noble chicken “King of the Run”.  I loved the claymation movie when it came out (seems like ages ago now).  The background was started days ago and it has masking tape, old dictionary paper, sewing pattern paper, music paper, part of a gold coloured post-it note and the sticker from the apple I ate today. Then I stamped off some paint from the gel plate in orange and green. Herbert was drawn with Copic multi liner brush (s) and painted with gouache.  More masking tape for the collar of his shirt so I could stick down the lace.  I have a chicken wire stencil but I wanted to use it like a stamp do I got my gel plate out and got to work.  Stickles glitter glue on top of Copic multi-liner and red Sharpie for King lettering.

It all started because I wanted to hide a mess that I inadvertently made using too much water on the previous page.  Yup, I had fun today.

Outgoing mail

Snail mail envelope with goodies inside mailed off to Rose  in Brampton Ontario.  Hope she likes it!

I put the address inside the bubble.  Envelope and cheap craft paint.  The postal worker lived it and so did the next customer in line.

I sent some extra goodies in the envelope and it included a birdie that I painted from a utube video that saw

Tomato

We have had so many delicious tomato’s from our garden this year!

Changes

I was looking at a piece called “Forest” painted by Frank Satogata and it inspired me to have a go with this abstract.  This is not a reproduction of his art but I had an interesting time using two yellows, two blues and two greens to come up with this.  The song “Changes” keeps running through my head from when I was about 12 and heard it on the radio. It is playing in my head right now.

Dark and gloomy face

Thanks to LGT if Sktchy for the fun inspiration!I wasn’t sure how this would turn out since I drew and painted on a page in my grocery bag journal.  The layers underneath the Kuretake Gansai Tambi black watercolour are a mix of gesso, craft paint, stencils and stamps. #mixed_media #grocery_bag #recycle #Kuretake

Ontario Peaches

This is in my hand bound sketchbook (Strathmore 500 series Aquarius II watercolour paper).   Ontario peaches are finally in season so I drew and painted this before I ate it this morning.  I’m leaving in the sketch on the left because I used the Shadow Violet.

Not totally happy but but I was getting hungry and I was loath to do anymore in case I ruined it completely

Eggs in a nest

I finished the page yesterday but too late to photograph.

I spent the afternoon with my gel plate trying to figure out how to make the nest with eggs from a video on line.  The artist is German and some of the white subtitles were too hard for me to see so I fumbled through it and made my “how-to”!

More practice required.
