Tea bag art and our Finial

This past Wednesday, I meet up with my sketching buddy and we had a lovely lunch at The Blue Willow Rea Room in Gravenhurst.

 I think Martie was a bit surprised when I emptied the large folded tea bag out on my plate and placed it in my napkin to dry and stowed it in my purse. 

We are getting a new metal roof on our old house (circa 1892) and the roofers took down what was left of the finial on the one gable. The ornament has been damaged, eaten away by the exposure to the harsh elements over the many years that it has been on the roof. I wanted to draw and document it! 

I have also seen lots of interesting tea bag art and wanted to test it out for myself. I tore off a piece of the flip-over for this. I was very surprised at how lovely it was to draw and paint on. I am definitely going to be using the tea bags I have saved; however, I am actually a coffee drinker!

I am still taking on-line classes with Sketchbook Skool dot com and enjoying every minute! I joined a sketchbook exchange with some other students and this is the final entry in Kristen's book. I will be mailing it out to her today! Yippee! What fun!

Putz House Christmas Tree Ornaments

I never knew that these vintage tree ornaments actually had a special name! I have always loved them as a kid and they still hang on my tree!

I thought I should document these paper ornaments in my sketchbook because I think they deserve to be seen more often than just at Christmas time.  In addition, just in case, they get lost.....I was sure we had castle shaped ones too but I don't have those anymore.




For me, what is important is that I am trying to art more often than I have in the past.  I'm not much on New Years Resolutions so I like to start early.  Making some art each day is some time that I deserve to give myself.

Vintage Thread Spools

So how many is too many?

I bought three bags of these vintage spools at a local thrift shop. I couldn't help myself. They didn't have any thread on them when I bought them.

The clerk asked me what I was going to do with them. I actually had no idea but I know that the internet will supply me with some ideas. Yup! Some of them will have a new purpose shortly! When I get them re-created into something new I will post them here!

I wonder who had these and why they threw them out. I find it strange that each one had every bit of thread removed. I have found a few other spools but they usually have a least a little bit of leftover thread on the spool. Someone went to a lot of trouble to remove the thread from all of the spools. I haven't counted them yet and all I can say is that they are "numerous".
